May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had (Romans 15:5)
Having a Christ-like attitude means you are walking around with the mind of Christ. The first thing that Christians are supposed to do, after being baptized and accepting Jesus as savior, is to transform your mind. When you transform your mind, then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is (Romans 12:2). When our minds think like Christ- a walking peace of God on Earth- then we can discern what is good and righteous for humans. In other words, mind your business until you're all the way together.
I felt like God wasn't going to think I was sincere about Christianity until I read the whole Bible.
My mom told me reading the entire Bible was unnecessary, but I wanted to be all in. I did not want to be a fake Christian. Before I got baptized at 13 years old, I read the Bible. I read it cover-to-cover over the course of a year. I don't remember much about that read, except struggling through flowery language and feeling like I was reading Homer's Odyssey. It is a fantastic adventure with war, sex, betrayal, magic, celestial beings and environmental disasters.
Reading has kept me grounded on my spiritual walk. One of my favorite books in the Bible is Romans. Romans is in plain language. It was written as instructions to the newly converted Roman empire to worship one God. Get with the program, you Italians! (just kidding) Romans is often cited as a "guide for baby Christians" so I attached to it soon after I joined the church.
I believe that human rights and Reproductive Justice are practical tools we have towards true liberation for God's people on Earth. If you are doing that work, you are doing the will of God! To purposefully fulfill God's will requires a special kind of righteous mindset, though; a Christ-like mind. Peace and love. I am disappointed by today's Christians. I would not play and call myself Christian if I weren't trying to think like Christ. I would be fake, and I wasn't even fake at 12 years old.
