Fully funded, in a doctoral program I stand,
A journey of knowledge, a dream come to hand,
A Black queer woman,
with a passion to learn,
A heart full of fire,
and a soul that will burn.
$250,000 in debt,
a weight on my back,
From the prestige of bachelor and master's tracks,
But now I stand here,
with full funding in sight,
A chance to pursue my dreams,
and make them take flight.
A vision for expertise,
in a subject so dear,
A chance to make a difference,
and to change what's not clear,
Support, mentorship,
a network to gain,
A chance to grow and thrive,
and to make a new name.
It's not just about me,
it's about what I'll bring,
To the world and its challenges,
to the issues that sting,
It's about using my knowledge,
to make things right,
To create a better world,
and a brighter light.
And so I am grateful,
for this opportunity,
For the chance to learn and grow,
and to find my unity,
With my passion and my fire,
and my heart full of grace,
I know that I'll make a difference,
in this doctoral race.
So here's to the journey,
to the path that I've chosen,
To the knowledge and the wisdom,
that will never be frozen,
Here's to the hope and the dreams,
that we all carry deep,
To the promise of a better world,
and the joy that we reap.
